As many of us know, the Amazon Firestick is a powerful media device with tons of capabilities for streaming Movies, TV Shows, and Live TV.
With its jailbreaking capabilities, users can install applications that are not available within the Amazon App Store for unrestricted streaming access and much more.
However, it seems that this is not the only purpose for these devices as a UK teen recently proved.
Last week, 18-year-old Arion Kurtaj alongside an unnamed 17-year-old accomplice were convicted for their roles in hacking the well-known video game company Rockstar Games Inc.

Kurtaj is a member of the “digital bandits” group known as Lapsus$ and has performed numerous hacks on popular corporations including NVIDIA, Microsoft, and more.
In fact, the teen was on bail for his involvement in hacking NVIDIA when a rival group “doxed” Kurtaj as well as other members of his family and their personal information.
This prompted law enforcement to move him to a hotel room for his safety where he was banned from accessing the internet.
Kurtaj ultimately ignored these restrictions and continued his attacks, this time targeting Rockstar Inc. and the highly anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto IV.
This is where the story gets even crazier, as Kurtaj supposedly did so using only an Amazon Firestick, cell phone, mouse, and keyboard to perform the hack.
He purchased the devices at a local store and performed the hack from his Travelodge hotel room all while under police surveillance.

The teen used his skills to access Rockstar’s online portal and steal gameplay clips as well as declaring that he downloaded all data for GTA IV.
He even went as far as messaging employees on Slack announcing himself as an attacker and ordering the company to contact him on Telegram:
if Rockstar does not contact me on Telegram within 24 hours I will start releasing the source code…
It is unclear exactly how the attack was performed but it is likely that Kurtaj was able to access a cloud service with the Firestick and infiltrate Rockstar’s database.
At the same time, 90 video clips of unfinished gameplay were leaked on a fan forum under the lucrative username “TeaPotUberHacker”.
Ultimately, City of London Police entered the room and allegedly caught him “red-handed” where he was re-arrested and detained.
Both Kurtaj and his accomplice have been convicted of the crime and are awaiting sentencing which will come at a later date.
