New NVIDIA SHIELD Stick – A Competitor for the Amazon Firestick?

NVIDIA SHIELD Stick
On Thursday, Newegg accidentally leaked the new NVIDIA SHIELD Stick but it was quickly taken down after they realized this mistake.
This comes in the wake of Amazon also leaking the new NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro on the same day as well.  That listing was also removed very quickly.
We were aware that some new devices were coming from NVIDIA due to some FCC filings that appeared earlier this year.  It now appears that these devices will go on sale starting October 28th.
From the looks of things in the listing, this new device will be called the “Shield TV”.  But, do to its shape, its users will probably refer to it as the NVIDIA SHIELD Stick.
Due to the limited amount of information that was available on the Newegg Website, we didn’t get as much information on this product as we did the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro.
But, we do have some basic information and a few images to give us a good idea of what will be released soon.
Below, you will find NVIDIA’s description of this new device.
All-New Design
The new SHIELD TV is compact, stealth, and designed to disappear behind your entertainment center, right along with your cables. With Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band AC Wi-Fi, a built-in power supply, and a microSD card slot for storage expansion, it is powerful, feature-packed, and built for behind-the-scenes brilliance. The all-new remote is more advanced than ever with motion-activated, backlit buttons — including a user-customizable button. With voice control, Bluetooth, IR control for your TV, and a built-in lost remote locator, you have the most advanced remote yet.
NVIDIA SHIELD TV Stick Form Factor
The new NVIDIA SHIELD Stick measures 6.5 inches, weighs 8.3 ounces, and provides venting on each end.
This unique circular design includes ports on each end.  On one end, you will find an Ethernet jack and power input.  On the other end, you will see an HDMI port and Micro USB slot.
The NVIDIA SHIELD Stick is powered by the same processor as its new counterpart with the NVIDIA Tegra X1+ processor.  NVIDIA has stated that this processor will perform 25% faster than the current NVIDIA SHIELD on the market today.
The new NVIDIA SHIELD Stick will only come with 8GB of internal storage but we can increase this via Micro USB slot with external storage from the looks of things.
Like the Pro version, we get the same remote which includes motion activated backlit buttons, dedicated keys for volume, power, and Netflix.  It will also include a “lost remote locator” button so you can easily find your remote.  The NVIDIA SHIELD Stick remote is powered by regular batteries instead of the small coin battery in previous models.
When I first saw this, I was really excited, hoping that we would have something to compete with the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.  But, my excitement quickly dissipated  when I saw the expected price of $150!  Yes, this will be more powerful than the Fire TV Stick 4K but I don’t think people will be willing to pay $100 more for it.
NVIDIA SHIELD Stick Specs
We will place an order for this device once its available and provide a full review on this same page.
