yes we get Brit Box here in the States. I occassionally subscribe to it but only to watch Classic episodes of Dr. Who. Beyond that I'm not entirely interested in the content.
Here is a suggestion. If you do acquire a first generation fire tv box and it doesn't work. How about trying to install linux on it. I'm sure that would work on such an older devise.

Thanks for talking about my article. When you set up your Fire TV Stick 1, it was running Fire OS 3 (v54.1.2.3 was actually the last version of Fire OS 3). When you updated it in the video, it updated to the first version of Fire OS 5 which was v5.0.5. Your Fire TV Stick 1 still has a bunch of updates pending. I know this because it's still using the old interface. It'll get the new interface once you update past v5.2.4.1. Once you let it update, it should start working with more apps.
