An Estimated 50% of U.S. Households to Cut the Cord by 2024
Following their recent earnings report, Roku predicts that an estimated 50 percent of all U.S. households will cut the cord by 2024.
Similar to Amazon and NVIDIA, Roku has benefitted from this cord-cutting trend after reporting a strong 2019 Q4 earnings that beat analyst expectations.
Roku stated the following regarding their earnings report:
“New services and the growing investment in original programming that is exclusive to streaming are enriching the experience. This is driving more viewers to spend more time streaming and less time in traditional pay TV, and many consumers are leaving the legacy pay TV ecosystem entirely. We predict that by 2024 roughly half of all U.S. TV households will have cut the cord or never had traditional pay TV.”
This may not seem like a huge surprise to many due to the increasing number of streaming services available, but if 50 percent of all U.S. households cut their cable/satellite packages in 4 years that is a huge!
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration reported that “73% of U.S. households had a cable or satellite TV subscription in 2017.”
