I thought it would be fun to try out this first generation fire tv stick in 2023 and see how well it works. Well…. the answer will surprise you. This thing is NOT great. I think sometimes we forget how far technology has come. 8 years ago we couldn’t dream of the speed we have now. Wait till 2030 for what else crazy tech stuff we will find.

I was trying to use Rakuten tv but it's not Available In my country I tried most of the VPN's I know and it still doesn't work.
Great Video UGT but I am wondering were you using the previous owners Amazon account if it wasn’t your account that might be the reason you couldn’t get any apps to work.
I have that firestick it's terrible now back in the day it was good I learned you have to update them on a regular basis but again it's slow keep just because 😅😅😅I have ever firestick after the first they work but are slow

So i use it actually ebpveryday with no problem i watch twitch netflix youtube and that stuff its sometimes laggy but it works perfectly fine😊
The original Fire Stick was bad even when I got it new as a gift. I knew it could be bad before I opened it and I wasn't too surprised. Using the device is basically getting ads from Amazon to use their services. There was a period of time Youtube on it was so bad because Youtube blocked its app on the Firestick and Amazon had to workaround it. Now, it's so slow it's unusable. I switched to Chromecast and it's just so much better.
I started up my Gen 1 Fire TV box, and it works just fine and with a plug in USB stick I now have 128 gigs of storage
I still have s Roku LT from 2011. It normally sits in a box, but I recently loaned it to my daughter for a week. It can still load and run the vast majority of apps, but it runs at about 1/4 of the speed of your Fire Stick. It isn't any slower than it was in 2011, but, as you insinuated, expectations have chsnged.
I've got one which is limping on (playing bbc iplayer only). What can i replace it with (using on an old LG non-smart TV)
