In the past, users have had the ability to remap buttons on your Fire tv remote. This means, those small buttons on the button of your remote that take you to prime video, Netflix ect… could be changed to take you to other apps. However, now it looks like this ability have been completely removed from users capabilities.

  1. I JUST INSTALLED A LAUNCHER ON MY FIRESTICK 4K YESTERDAY IM IN THE US I DONT THIS MY OPINION I DONT THINK AMAZON IS GOING TO BLOCK THIRD PARTY APP IF THEY DO SOME OF THOSE THIRD PARTY APPS AINT THAT RELIABLE ANYWAY IVE HAD A FIRESTICK FOR YEARS I HAVE EVERY FIRESTICK THAT HAS CAME OUT UP UNTIL THE 4K I DONT HAVE THE 4K MAX FIRESTICK BECAUSE IN MY OPINION ITS NOT THAT MUCH BETTER THAN MY 4K FIRESTICK

  2. My old Fire Stick (all I've used since I disc it by an Ex back in 16) just quit on me, and the new 1 is exactly like depicted. I had enough probs just figuring out the new way to sideload 馃檮 I haven't messed w/those buttons, except Netflix (without hitting 1 by accident 馃槀), but looks like they're doing everything they can to destroy my reason for loving the 1st one. Saving me literally 10's of thousands of 馃挼 on DirecTv w/Genie at $212 a month !! Evil capitalists 馃槫馃槨馃檮馃挴

  3. I think if they reduce functionality on existing devices, owners would be perfectly entitled to ask for a refund of the cost of the device or to ask them to put it back as it was. It has put me off. I've got several of these, including an older pendant device, which now seems to have trouble decoding 1080i broadcasts, and certainly some 4K streams having frame dropouts and stuttering when it used to be fine. It seems it's now destined for the trash can. I've also got two NVidia Shield TV (cylinder versions), with the Netflix button remapped to start the Channels app. These devices are far superior to the Firestick, in every way, but are significantly more expensive. I bought the NVidia devices, BECAUSE the Amazon firesticks do not do what I need, which is to make an environment for the lady of the house to easily use. Using apps available on Nvidia app store, I can remap keys, and even change the frame rate of each app as it starts up. We need apps which start and run at 50hz (BBC iPlayer, ITVX and the Channels TV app) and 60hz ( Netflix, Disney and Amazon Prime video) but none of this is easy to do on Firestick. Support is there, but apps aren't implementing it except iPlayer. Also Amazon should at least allow one large button on the remote to be customised, and make it easy to use it to start the app the user wants to use the most. If they block developer mode and the ability to run third party stuff, I've done with the7m forever.
