This is tutorial on installing Kodi DSPlayer 17.7 (2020) and madVR for HDR Tone Mapping on non-HDR displays. This is the most updated version of Kodi DSPlayer, which has not been officially updated since November 26, 2017. I have been running 17.7 for months and I find it more stable than 17.6. I don’t believe I mentioned this in the video but it takes a lot of horsepower to properly take advantage of DSPlayer and madVR. I would recommend at least a newer quad core CPU paired with a decent GPU like GTX 970 or better. My main setup uses a i7 4790k paired with a GTX 1070 and I have no issues.

  1. I’ve never really thought about this much else really until now, but is it possible to connect a free to air satellite box to an Android box for HDR use? Or would I be best off using my new Zappiti 4K Pro HDR box? As I now have both Zappiti and an Android box plus 1 Amazon Fire 4K TV box. Thanks for the helpful video. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, regards please take care and stay safe. Sean Bennett

  2. Great video on Madvr. I have the last version of Kodi 18.9 Leia installed in my computer. I noticed that your version is 17.7. When I started the installation of 17.7, a window showed up saying that this version would relace 18.9 Leia in my computer but it would keep the settings that I already have installed. My question is, If I install version 17.7 with DSPlayer, when I replace it with any new version, Would this uninstall DSPlayer from Kody?

  3. Also I read that this works on plex kodi connect, without being able to mess with the madvr settings because the system tray icon won't pop up my playback is more washed out and significantly less vibrant playing through Kodi as opposed to just playing through Plex. Am I missing something? I followed your steps.

  4. Appreciate the guide!!….. Can this setup auto switch different settings for different displays? as i plan to use madvr for my TV and projector and obviously the tone settings will need to be different , or can I manually change via saved profiles or something

  5. Hi, seems to be that my settings set the same as yours, but my videos are still having washed out colors. MadVR tell me that my hdr transfer as HLG. So I don’t know what is wrong. I activated dsp player, madvr settings etc, also madvr with mpc works as expected. Issue only with KOdi? Could you please tell me some ideas to fix t hi s ? Thanks !
