This Onn TV Stick Review was written by Troy from TROYPOINT.
This device was purchased by Troy at his local Walmart.
This is an unbiased review where both the good and bad of the Onn TV Stick are revealed.
Right when I saw that the Onn TV Stick had hit the shelves at Walmart, I quickly purchased one.
I was curious to see what kind of performance we could get out of an Android TV Stick that costs $24.88.
The answer is, “Not much.”
I don’t know why Walmart is doing this because they also have an Onn Android TV Box for only $5 more!  Their box is a bit better and provides 4K playback.
This just doesn’t make sense.

If you’re interested in the Onn Android TV Box, it’s just a re-branded Dynalink Android TV Box that I’ve already reviewed.
But as far as the Onn TV Stick, here is my unbiased review.
This won’t be my typical review where I cover every single aspect of this device due to the fact that I don’t want to waste my time or yours.

Onn TV Stick Review

When I first booted the Onn TV Stick I was pleasantly surprised that an update was immediately available!
This could mean great things right?
On TV Stick with Remote
I then paired the remote with my Television and was happy to see that the volume and power buttons on the remote controlled the TV fabulously.
I then got into the Android TV home screen and was happy to see it was bare-bones which means we can easily customize it.  I like this type of Android TV launcher as it’s not filled with the advertisements found on the new Google TV interface (yuck).
I turned on Developer Options under settings and allowed for apps to be installed on external storage.
I then connected an OTG Cable by way of the micro-usb port that accepts the power cord.  I inserted a 256GB SanDisk 3.0 USB Drive and a message appeared in the top right corner.  It had recognized my drive!

Expanding internal storage does work on this device and you can run apps from the USB drive.  I was very surprised to see this.
I then proceeded to install the KODIFIREIPTVApp with Rapid App Installer and was able to side-load all of the popular free streaming apps and tools.

I then started experiencing WiFi connection problems.
My WiFi kept dropping so I rebooted my wireless router and the Onn TV Stick.
Unfortunately, that didn’t help.
I then connected to my 2.4GHz wireless band and it worked fine.  For some reason, it appears there is a problem with the wireless chip inside of this thing.  Or, it’s in need of a software update.
I then proceeded to test download speeds.  Not good.
Since I couldn’t stay connected to my 5GHz band, I had to test on 2.4 instead.
Download speeds without Quad VPN of was 125 Mbps.
Download speeds with VPN on was 20 Mbps.
We get much better speeds with the Fire TV Sticks and other Android TV streaming devices.
I then started playing movies and TV shows from  various applications including YouTube, Netflix, Cinema HD, Kodi, etc.
I encountered buffering in most of them.
Maybe I got a bad device but I highly doubt it.
Yes, the price is appealing but I would suggest opting for a Fire TV Stick Lite if you need to stay in the $25 range.
Or, spend a few more dollars and upgrade to a MECOOL KM2 or Fire TV Stick 4K.  If you choose the MECOOL, you will get 10% off if you use the coupon code KODIFIREIPTVat checkout.
Some have said they are purchasing this device so they can use the remote on other streaming devices.  That might be the only thing that this is good for.
