Cable Companies Expected to Lose 5% More Subscribers in 2020
In a recent report from the S&P Global Ratings, cable companies as a whole are expected to lose 5% more subscribes in 2020. In comparison to a previous estimate, that number is up from 3.30%.
MarketWatch noted that the “cable, satellite, and telecom companies that offer TV services are projected to lose about 5.1% of subscribers in 2020 due to cord-cutting.”
Credit analyst Naveen Sarma also stated the following regarding the report:
“We believe there is greater downside risk than upside potential to our 2020 forecast.”
This projection comes at no surprise to us, as the growing cord-cutting trend has shown no signs of slowing down. Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus are definitely some of the biggest names tied to cord cutting, as the list of streaming services is continuing to grow.
NBC News also published a recent article finding that “The number of Americans cutting the cord is expected to grow from 25.3 million in 2020 to 34.9 million in 2023.”
