To stream Live TV, you need a high-speed and stable internet connection, streaming device such as the Amazon Firestick, and a subscription to a streaming service.
You can also install a digital antenna should your live TV streaming service provider offer no over-the-air TV networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS. This provides you with the flexibility and full entertainment experience that other types of service providers cannot offer.

While many of these free services work well, they are not always reliable. Oftentimes, streams are only available in SD (Standard Definition) and typically have buffering issues.
If you want reliable, high quality television with no buffering, KODIFIREIPTVsuggests purchasing a paid IPTV Service. These services provide hundreds if not thousands of live HD TV Channels for a small monthly fee.

What is AT&T TV NOW?

AT&T began to compete in the cord-cutting market only in 2016 when it launched its DirectTV NOW service. Initially, the service consisted of differently priced subscription plans but suffered from a loss of more than 1 million customers after subsequent rate hikes.
Eventually, the company reduced the plan options to only two by offering 45 channels for $50 a month and 60 channels for $70.
In the middle of 2019, the company decided to re-brand its offering to AT&T TV NOW and added other subscription plans to capture a more discerning viewer market. Aside from this, the company also offers other live TV streaming services such as:
AT&T WATCHTV – comes free for AT&T Unlimited & More plan subscribers. For those who aren’t subscribed yet, it may delight first-time cord-cutters because it is the cheapest non-discounted option available. It doesn’t come with DVR and doesn’t support multiple streaming on different devices though.
AT&T TV – requires a contract plus set-top box and is available only in some cities in California, Florida, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, New York, Texas and Washington.
AT&T TV NOW is compatible with most popular devices such as the Amazon Firestick, which is perfect for cord-cutters. Overall, AT&T TV NOW is a great choice for cord-cutters who want to watch sports, movies, news and children’s programming at a very competitive monthly fee.

AT&T TV NOW Review

AT&T TV NOW is a top favorite among all three IPTV services offered by AT&T. It doesn’t require a contract and a proprietary set top box and has more channels available.

Channel Lineup

att tv now channels
Channel availability depends on the type of subscription plan. The Plus plan has 45+ channels while the Max plan offers 60+ channels plus wider sports coverage. HBO, which is a paid add-on channel in most IPTV services, is already included in all plans.
AT&T TV NOW claims that it offers new channels that are not covered by its competitors. These include Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV and VH1.
You can pay more for extra channels on its premium network lineup such as Cinemax ($11 but is already included on the Max plan), SHOWTIME ($11), STARZ ($11), Epix ($6) and its Movies Extra Pack ($5).
Take note that some regional sports and local channels are not available in selected markets.

Pricing Packages and Inclusions

There are two featured packages offered by AT&T TV NOW. The Plus plan is priced at $65 per month while the Max plan is at $80 per month. (Note: In the middle of 2019, AT&T increased its monthly rates for the Plus and Max plans from $50 and $70, respectively.)
Other packages are also available. These include:
Entertainment plan – $93 per month and includes 65+ channels with CNN, ESPN, HGTV, Disney Junior, TBS and MSNBC
Choice – $110 per month and includes 85+ channels with Science, Travel Channel, Game Show, YES, The Weather Channel and OWN
XTRA – $124 per month and includes 105+ channels with FS2, Oxygen, Golf, Discovery Family Channel, FXM and Sundance TV
Ultimate – $135 per month and includes 125+ channels with Boomerang, STARZ ENCORE ACTION, ENCORE FAMILY and CLASSIC, El Rey and Univision Deportes Network
Optimo Más – $86 per month and includes 90+ channels with ESPN Deportes, Univision, FOX Sports, Cine Estelar, ViendoMovies and Discovery
There are also other add-ons such as the NBA League Pass Premium ($40), Spanish add-ons (from $5 to $15), and International TV (from $20 to $30).

User Interface

What’s unique about AT&T TV NOW is its viewer-friendly features. For example, instead of redirecting the viewer to the main menu upon launching the app, it plays the last channel that was viewed previously right away.
I’m also impressed with the list of options on its menu, which include Watch Now, My Library, Discover, Guide, Search and Settings. The Search settings does a great job at presenting results, which also allows to be filtered by TV shows or sports programs. Compared with other IPTV services, it still has to be further developed to reflect more precise results when typing in searches.
On the other hand, the mobile app features only Watch Now, My Library, Discover and Guide. I was surprised to find out that I cannot stream any NFL game, which can be frustrating to football fans.

Streaming and Picture Quality

AT&T TV NOW requires at least 8 Mbps for better quality streaming. However, since it allows up to three devices for simultaneous streaming, you need at least 23 Mbps to maintain better quality. For mobile data, it’s best to have at least 2.5 Mbps for SD streaming but at least 8 Mbps for HD quality.
I used a 200 Mbps internet connection so there were no lags when streaming using such reliable network. When streaming on my mobile, it can be a bit laggy, especially when traveling.
I find the streaming and picture quality, however, consistent with 720p resolution for most programs.
Switching channels requires an average of four seconds before a new one loads. This is quite the norm for almost all IPTV services these days.

Cloud DVR Functionality

If you’re particular with cloud DVR recording, then AT&T TV NOW’s feature may not be for you. While YouTube TV doesn’t have a cap on the number of hours and would store it for nine months, AT&T TV NOW only offers 20 hours of recording and stores if for 30 days only (Its other service, AT&T TV stores recorded content for 90 days, however).
I tried using this feature and was easily impressed by it. I was able to record TV shows that were already airing and those that were still upcoming in a few days. Take note that it does not record a program from its beginning automatically so you have to choose the Restart feature so you can playback from the start. However, not all programs allow such feature.
Accessing my recordings from the My Library section was also easy. There was hardly any lag or bugs even when playing it multiple times.

Other Issues

I cannot customize the menus with this service. While other IPTV services already have included such feature in their interface, it seems surprising that AT&T TV NOW seems a bit stuck in the early days of cord-cutting.
Second, I find it inconvenient swiping left or right when browsing from one channel to another. Not all channel surfers would want to flip through each channel arranged alphabetically. Imagine doing that every time you have to sit on the couch and would want to spend the evening in front of the TV.
Third, there was also no picture-in-picture feature.
Finally, AT&T recently increased its monthly price plans so it may not be the only time they will hike costs. Given that other IPTV services have slashed its rates to appeal to more customers, the company needs to think about how it can compete at a more affordable price.

Bottomline

There’s a lot to like about AT&T TV NOW, especially for cord-cutters who want to get the best deals from their monthly plans. It provides more subscription options at varying prices.
The problem, however, is with its high price point, its rivals such as YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV can beat it out in terms of other functions such as cloud DVR recording, channel lineup and even streaming quality.
If you’re a fan of HBO, then it can be cost-effective since it already comes in the bundle. But, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that can accompany you with nearly all the same features of this service.
