The popular movie streaming app CotoMovies has shut down for good, it’s developer says.
The app came under fire when the movie “Hellboy” targeted it, specifically in the 3rd party app installer Tweakbox.
Now it seems the app’s developer is apologizing for his actions and has agreed to transfer data from the app’s users to authorities.
In a statement from the app creator, he claims “To this end, I have agreed to transfer to counsel for the rights holders user data and communications under my possession..”

I want to express my sincere regret to the owners of the motion pictures Hellboy and Angel Has Fallen as well as all rights holders for inducing and contributing to copyright infringements by my operation of the app CotoMovies. From this stressful legal experience, I have learned to appreciate the damage apps such as CotoMovies do to those who invest their time, effort and money to create motion pictures. I now plan to fully respect intellectual property laws and strongly urge those who used my app to use legal apps to watch movies. To this end, I have agreed to transfer to counsel for the rights holders user data and communications under my possession and control so that they can enforce their valuable intellectual property.
The legal issues started for CotoMovies after the films “Hellboy” and “Angel Has Fallen” pursued their termination from Tweakbox. Along with a few other video apps within the application.
After it’s removal from Tweakbox, the app shutdown entirely. It seems there may be a “settlement” between the filmmakers and the app’s developer but we are unsure at this time.
With CotoMovies being gone for good, the lawyer  for Hellboy claimed that this is not all they are after.  In a statement to TorrentFreak, Kerry S. Culpepper claims they will “more than likely” pursue CotoMovies users.
